Our Mission
The AI Governance Hackathon exists to close the gap between technical AI safety research and the policy frameworks that govern real-world deployment. Participants work across disciplines, from engineers and researchers to policymakers and civil society, to produce concrete, evidence-based policy recommendations aligned with EU regulatory priorities.

The hackathon is organized by the Data for Public Impact Network (DPIN), a community dedicated to harnessing data and technology for the public good. DPIN brings together researchers, practitioners, and institutions working at the intersection of data science, governance, and social impact.

Xuelong Fu
Co-Organizer
Xuelong graduated with an MPhil in Technology Policy at the University of Cambridge. Prior, he studied three bachelor's degrees in political science, business administration, and AI. He co-founded the Amsterdam and Cambridge Policy Hackathon before launching the Data for Public Impact Network (DPIN), which aims to bring policy hackathons to cities around the world. His interests lie at the intersection of technology, policy, and entrepreneurship, with a passion for social impact and directing transformative technology, like AI, towards positive societal change.
Florian Furitsch

With his studies in governance and law, Florian is currently working on how CBAM (EU climate law) works out for industrial SMEs. Besides that Florian is especially interested both in the economics of AI deployment as well as practical application. During downtime he's a passionate runner and cook.

Adam Herold
Co-Organizer
Adam is one of the four directors of Data for Public Impact Network. He holds an MPhil in Technology Policy from the University of Cambridge and Bachelor's in interdisciplinary social sciences from Cornell University. Academically, his research has spanned econometrically assessing career motivation, developing policy to direct AI towards complementing (rather than substituting) human creativity, and navigating high-tech supply chain geopolitics. Professionally, he previously worked as a senior business researcher at Gartner. On the side, he is a practicing artist and graphic designer and is keenly interested in social entrepreneurship.
Yusuf Heylen

Yusuf is shifting his focus towards AI safety governance and research, building on his technical and political background. He is particularly interested in turning technical AI safety work into practical policy. Based near Brussels, he has been engaging with Belgium's AI safety and governance community and volunteers with DPIN on its Brussels AI Governance Hackathon.
Diego van der Mast

Diego is an MSc AI student at the University of Amsterdam. Fueled by his interest in sociotechnical progress community-building, and interdisciplinary collaboration, he co-founded the Amsterdam Policy Hackathon and Data for Public Impact Network (DPIN). He's excited to bring together the brightest minds to build a network of changemakers and tackle pressing policy challenges through this hackathon.
